Delta Air Lines came to the rescue of a group of Oklahoma elementary school students who were left stranded at an airport after American Airlines canceled their flight to Virginia and Washington, D.C.
Delta chartered a spare plane to take 41 fifth graders and their adult chaperones from James L . Dennis Elementary School in Oklahoma City to Virginia after they got stuck at Oklahoma City’s Will Rogers World Airport, Delta spokesperson Drake Castañeda confirmed to USA TODAY on Tuesday.

This is why I fly Delta whenever I can. The one time I flew American it was an absolute shit show with my final leg having three flights canceled because the weather at the destination “might get bad” and then “was too bad to fly”. When I got back to work a day late I asked my boss and he said that the weather had been just fine the day before.

There need to be more dots between the turd sandwich and AA. Also between AA and Fight Club.

I have never flown American, probably because they don’t serve our small regional airport.

I’ve had good and bad experiences on all those airlines. I think it comes down to the route and the individual people. Corporations don’t care about you. It if the person in the scene embraces their humanity and compassion, good thing s can happen.

I agree with this generally but the distance from SWA to Delta becomes greater for those of us who aren’t frequent fliers on Delta. Every time I fly Delta I’m in boarding group “2 ” which is actually boarding group 37 after all the other un-numbered sky priority, frequent flier, military, family, gold credit card, silver credit card, blah blah blah blah blah.
Spirit, Frontier, Alaska, and their ilk go even below UA.

It has gotten bad there...but also on SWA. Just a few years ago, if you were proactive you could check in 24 hours ahead and guarantee A group boarding. But then they wised up and realized they could charge people for that privilege. Now “manual checkin” is never any better than the middle of the B group. No problem for 1-2 people, but often a PITA for a family. 4-5 seats together? Maybe in front of the toilet.
Thankfully Southwest’s “race to the bottom” is a lot slower than everyone else, and that’s why I usually stick with them. I used to expect cheap flights from Southwest, now I’ll pay a premium.
Meanwhile, our movie theatres have mandatory assigned seats and it’s a trainwreck. Just like flying on UA or AA, IMO.

With manual check-in I’ve been able to halfway consistently snag a high number in the A group on SWA, even recently. But I’ve definitely also gotten low #s in B even with doing it right at the 24 hour mark. I suppose it depends on how booked up the flight is. M ost of my SWA flying is from the various DC-area airports to Milwaukee which is not exactly a major destination.

Fair point...we used to do BHM-BWI once or twice a year, and in the last couple years the flights were 99% booked. A few years ago, maybe 75%. SWA has also cut way down on their nonstops
over the years, which is tough. They’re starting to resemble the legacy carriers a little more over time. But still way better overall.

I won’t fly Southwest, I need that assigned seating. I find the Southwest boarding process way more stressful than other airlines (which already suck).

Since I’m never in the good boarding groups on the other airlines, I’d rather set myself a calendar reminder 24 hours before an SWA flight and roll the dice on getting a seat. I have big shoulders and I’m most comfortable in aisle seats. But now the other guys make you pay extra for the privilege of reserving a seat and even with that I’m not always able to get an aisle.
